WEEK 5_ONLINE LEARNING

Hi everyone, today I want to talk about online learning, what online learning means to me. In general, I will talk about the reflection on online learning. Online courses are commonly implemented in institutions nowadays because they provide easy access to course materials, group meetings, and lecturers feedback. The learning materials can be easily accessed through the internet from laptop, computer or mobile phone, whether at the college or at home. I have taken online learning about three semesters since the last year of Diploma and found this kind of learning to be beneficial. Despite that online learning allow me to stay at home with my family. There are another reasons why I would prefer to take an online education over one in a normal regular classroom such as saving money and saving time also saving energy. Since I am an introvert person, I would prefer study at home which limits my chance to attend classes during lessons hours. Online learning also enable me to work by myself at my own pace.

I've also discovered that I must be self-disciplined and capable of working independently in order to be a good online learner. I will be able to watch the recording videos by the instructors at any time I free since I am not physically attend the class. Since the lecturer will not be there to remind me of assignments or project deadlines, I must be self-disciplined and aware of it. I used to always  procrastinate my works when I first involved in online classes because I simply assumed that the course work could be postponed until I had more time to do it. Unfortunately, I got very far behind. It took me a long time to get back on the rails with my assignments, and I told myself that I would never do so again.

Next, online learning also allows me to always having communication with lecturers and friends. I have never struggled to reach out to my professor for guidance or clarification on the assignment or project. Being able to have a conversation with the lecturers and friends has allowed me to become a more active contributor in the classes. All of my friends also helpful. We help each other in doing the tasks given by lecturer. I have also discovered that by discussing, we can forcing ourselves to share each other ideas and comments about the assignment.

In my experience with online learning, the another benefits clearly I can save more money. I would spend about RM80 each week in a normal learning. In this online learning, the only fee that I have with the phone prepaid, wi-fi and papers. Next, this kind of learning also save my time more than usual. Before the class started, I do not need to prepare myself to go to class. I can help my mother at kitchen in the morning and just enter the class right on time. I also have more time with my family.

Despite of that advantages, online learning also have disadvantages. An online session generally lacks the bright and joy atmosphere of a classroom. Since the first semester of degree, I still do not have an opportunity to have university life. I always get demotivated because I cannot having fun with my friends. Then, I always struggle with the internet connection. Whenever I need to do the live presentation in class, ,my computer microphone and camera always automatically turn off. Furthermore, high levels of exposure to electronics has its own health risks such as headaches, blurred vision, and a lack of attention in class.

In a nutshell, online learning does fit my personality. Not only are online classes simple, but they also educate you how to be a more disciplined student. I would highly suggest online classes to anyone with a hectic schedule, such as someone who works full-time or has family commitments.
